About Adam's Peak (Sri Pada)
A dam's Peak is a 2,243 m (7,359 ft) sacred mountain that has drawn pilgrims for centuries. At its summit is a mysterious footprint-shaped indentation in the rock - venerated as the footprint of Buddha in Buddhist tradition, of Shiva in Hindu belief, and of Adam or St. Thomas in Christian and Islamic lore. The climb involves ascending ~5,500 steps, often starting after midnight. Reaching the top by dawn, trekkers witness one of Sri Lanka's most spellbinding sunrises.
