About Sinharaja Forest Reserve
S inharaja is a UNESCO-listed tropical rainforest and biodiversity hotspot - the last sizeable remnant of Sri Lanka's virgin rainforest. Tucked in the south-west of the island, this mystical forest (whose name means 'Lion Kingdom') is alive with endemic flora and fauna. Towering hardwoods create a dense canopy where rare orchids cling, and the air is filled with birdsong and the hum of insects. Over 60% of Sinharaja's trees are endemic to Sri Lanka.
